Transpread 5.5 Ton Lime and Fertilizer Spreader

The Garrett Soil Conservation District has purchased a Transpread 5.5 Ton Lime and Fertilizer Spreader available for rent to Garrett County landowners. This spreader can help with the task of maintaining proper pH and soil fertility, benefitting crop vigor and resulting in reduced runoff and soil erosion.

The GSCD is responsible for coordinating the rental of the spreader. To benefit the greatest number of acres, the spreader is rented based on the order the landowner requested the spreader, where the spreader is located in the county, and the point in time the landowner needs the spreader.

The Transpread was purchased to promote better growth and plant vigor of cropland and pasture. Improving soil fertility is an excellent way to revitalize an old meadow or pasture. Proper soil pH is important for crop and pasture performance. Vigorous vegetative growth minimizes soil erosion from runoff and minimizes the harmful effects on surface water quality from sediment and nutrients in runoff.

The Transpread is capable of spreading lime, gypsum, poultry litter, and most types of fertilizer. The Transpread has split rear doors for spreading to one side. It has an adjustable spread width of 33 to 45 feet for lime and 66 to 98 feet for fertilizer. The hopper, shafts, spinners, and 3-speed gearbox are all stainless steel. The drag belt is a 33 inch wide continuous loop rubber with cleats. The spreader is also a single axle with high flotation 45 inch diameter tires.

Those interested in the use of the Transpread spreader must have a truck or tractor with adequate towing capacity. It is also recommended to use a tractor with the minimum of 8 GPM hydraulic capacity to operate the spreader.
